  • John Howard Hixon, age 80, of Donaldson, passed away October 16, 2015. He was born January 16, 1935 to Nelson and Edris Hixon of Donaldson, AR.

     

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and twin daughters, Sandra and Judy Lynn Hixon.

     

    He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Hixon of Donaldson; one son, Bruce Hixon (Sandy) of Brown Springs; one daughter, Kathy Shaw of Texarkana, AR; four grandchildren, Buddy Hixon (Erika) of Brown Springs, Chris Hixon (Misty) of Brown Springs, Jodie Brookes (Von) of Texarkana, AR, and Nathan Shaw (Jessica) of Brown Springs; and seven great-grandchildren, Jarret and Gabby Hixon of Brown Springs, Lexi and Will Hixon of Brown Springs, Cash and Callie Looney of Texarkana, AR, and Noah Shaw of Brown Springs. He is also survived by two brothers, Wayne Hixon (Marie) of Donaldson and Jimmy Hixon of Poyen; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

     

    Howard served as a firefighter in the United States Air Force in Roswell, New Mexico from 1952 until 1956. Howard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting with his children and grandchildren, camping, and watching sports. He was a member of Donaldson Missionary Baptist Church.

     

    Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Donaldson Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Hollis McDermott and Bro. Ronnie Hardin officiating. Burial will be at Ouachita Cemetery.

     

    Pallbearers will be Eric Davis, Brad Dyess, Scott Johnson, Ricky Martin, Gary Shepherd, and Rocky Ware. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Davis, David Davis, Greg Dyess, Dennis Hixon, Joel Hixon, Jimmy Martin, Steve Shepherd, Doug Ware, Brian “Bubba” Smith, Dr. Bruce Burton, and Katie Martin. The family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Burton and Gentiva hospice team with a special thanks to Katie Martin.

     

    The family will be at the home of John H. Hixon.
